From Initiative to Foundation: A History of Hope
Founding Years (2021 - 2023): The Girl Child Initiative
The initiative was established in response to the growing need to support girls' education and opportunities for personal development. Mrs Umeh observed that **girls were disproportionately missing out on basic education and health services** due to poverty, cultural norms, and lack of awareness among parents. In the early years, the focus was on providing **career talks and educational resources** to girls in our local community, driven by a small team of dedicated volunteers who worked tirelessly to identify and support girls in need.
Growth and Expansion (2023 - 2025): Formation of the Foundation
As The Girl child Initiative grew, it became a registered **non-profit, non-governmental organization** and metamorphosed into **THE GIRL CHILD DEVELOPMENT CHARITY FOUNDATION**. Operating entirely on Mrs Umeh's personal savings and donations from friends, family, and community members, the Foundation **expanded its programs** to include:
- Health & Reproductive Rights
- Mentorship Programs
- Skill Development Workshops
- Wider Community Outreach
